Director of Engineering (Elizabeth City, North Carolina)

Motion Sensors, Inc. (MSI) is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its development efforts in the global speed & position sensing marketplace. Motion Sensors, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of speed sensors, including Hall Effect and Variable Reluctance Technologies with integral signal conditioning features. As Director of Engineering, you will play the leading role in the development and completion of company design, cost improvement and quality projects in a competitive sensors industry. In addition to interacting directly with upper management, you will plan and monitor work schedules and work with a diverse team of engineers. The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities and projects with company goals and objectives, providing expert guidance and support, approving newly developed policies from various departments, and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in the company.

We are seeking an individual with exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills, a minimum of 5 years of management experience, and a belief in developing the skills and talents of others. This individual should have demonstratable experience in managing complex technical projects and know how to build electronic-based products and features from scratch. Ideal candidates should have experience in identifying and navigating organizational changes, a keen interest in trends in engineering and leadership, and above-average emotional intelligence.

As Director of Engineering, you will play both a strategic and a technical role inside the company. The strategic aspect includes setting goals for the team, hiring engineers and prioritizing projects to align with the overall goals of the company. The technical aspect is about getting actively involved in identifying requirements, developing new products, maintaining a clear project pipeline, and setting timelines. Ultimately, you will make sure we use innovative technologies that maximize our productivity and help our company grow.


Responsibilities

  • Consult with staff level personnel to create long-range operating and manufacturing goals specific to the needs of the organization.
  • This position will report directly to the President of the company.
  • Developing new products from concept to testing to production.
  • Proposing new products and designs with and for the sales department.
  • Maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implementing best practice engineering methods.
  • Adhering to company quality standards per ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Providing technical guidance to engineering teams and top management.
  • Supporting established organizational objectives by developing goals and strategies.
  • Creating and presenting budgets and plans.
  • Finding and implementing ways to improve cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee development teams and their projects by setting requirements, goals, and timelines.
  • Monitor reliability and performance of all internal systems to suggest improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations & hazardous area classification certifications.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering department’s development pipeline.
  • Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources.
  • Hire engineers and coordinate their training.
  • Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and processes.
  • Lead the company’s engineering effort in implementing a new ERP system.
  • Oversee engineering staff and ensure that they meet goals and objectives.
  • Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department to determine market potential for new products.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred. Other engineering degrees may be acceptable if the candidate has experience and competence with electrical design and components.
  • At least five years as Engineering Manager or related experience required or in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department.

Quality Manager

Sentech, Inc is looking for a Quality Manager who is hands-on and who can plan and conduct activities to support the design and manufacturing of electrical position sensors and circuits. The candidate is responsible for managing incoming, in-process, & outgoing inspections, as well as a primary role in maintaining/improving the business Quality Management System. The primary products are Linear and Rotary Variable Differential Transformers (LVDT, RVDT) for position measurement sensors and Hall Effect Speed Sensors and Variable Reluctance Proximity Sensors .  The candidate will work closely with all disciplines of the organization.

Incoming Inspector Duties & Responsibilities

The Quality Manager will be in charge of supervising all aspects of the quality & inspection processes to make sure that all products meet standardized hazardous area and ISO9001 & AS9100 standards. Their duties include developing and implementing quality control tests, inspecting products at various stages, and writing Quality reports documenting production issues. Their duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performing internal quality audits
  • Preparing external quality audits for customers and certifying agencies.
  • Hosting and leading quality audits during on-site visits
  • Implementing and maintaining methods to inspect, test and evaluate products and production equipment
  • Ensuring that products adhere to ISO9001 and AS9100 quality standards
  • Ensuring that products adhere to ATEX, IECEX and other worldwide hazardous area use standards for intrinsic safety and explosion proof (flame proof) applications.
  • Preparing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
  • Working according to deadlines for the delivery of products
  • Training and managing direct staff in production practices and quality assessment of goods
  • Tracking and auditing products through the manufacturing process to guarantee that each part of the process is correct and that products get inspected correctly and efficiently
  • Performing detailed and recorded inspections of final products so the products are up to industry and company standards
  • Eliminating products that are not up to standards and working with other departments to document and implement corrective actions

The Quality Manager should use a variety of soft skills and industry knowledge to ensure products are up to standards, including:

  • Communication skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point to convey information in reports, meetings, and status reports 
  • Knowledge of similar products to perform accurate quality control

  • Analysis, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to review systems, find flaws and pose solutions to those flaws

  • Ability to use measuring devices like gauges, meters, calipers and computers

Outside Sales Engineer

Sentech is seeking an experienced, highly motivated outside technical sales professional. This position is responsible for supporting company business development efforts and communication of technical responses to customers (working with company Engineers). The Outside Sales Engineer will be required to gain a thorough understanding of the company’s products and customers and to develop strong relationships with our business partners/customers. The Outside Sales Engineer will also be required to develop and maintain trusted relationships with decision makers, engineers and other key buyers within named accounts and partners.

Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate the ability to address each customer's and partner's unique inquiry, while providing them with the proper information and appropriate solution based on the customer's specific needs and interests.
• Hunter mentality.

• Develop new business with existing and new customers.
• Engage and work with business partners where appropriate.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Sales and Operations to establish a working knowledge of company products and procedures.
• Follow-up on all leads supplied and ensure company’s internal CRM is updated.
• Follow-up with clients to ensure consistent and ongoing coverage of accounts including new sales opportunities.
• Understand and participate as required in all aspects of the sales cycle, including qualifying, presentations, demonstrations, and RFP responses.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the company’s customers, the prospects, the partners, and the influencers.
• Maintain the highest level of customer and partner satisfaction with all accounts.
• Maintain a positive, professional 'total customer service' attitude and demonstrate the company's Core Values.
• Coordinate, plan, and schedule sales support functions with the Sentech Engineering staff.
• This position is full time and will report to the Vice President of Sales.

• 5+ years of Business-to-Business sales experience with Sensors (Hall Effect, Proximity, Magnetic Pickup is a plus).
• Proven ability to work in a sales environment and an understanding of sensor technologies.
• Proven negotiation skills and the ability to persuade and influence decision makers and executives are required.
• Professionalism, ethical, personal integrity, a high internal commitment to achieve success.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
